NDIS Navigator
Furlong Park School for Deaf Children is supported by an NDIS Navigator, Sian Dunn, who works at the school every Monday. The NDIS Navigator role is a Victorian Department of Education initiative designed to help parents and carers understand and navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Sian’s role is to support families by:
-
- helping them understand how the NDIS works
- explaining what supports may be available
- assisting families to prepare for NDIS plans or plan reviews
- helping gather school information needed for NDIS applications
- supporting communication between the school, families and external NDIS-funded therapists
- guiding families on where to go for additional help if challenges with the NDIS arise
Sian does not make decisions about NDIS services at school, provide case management, or contact the NDIA on a family’s behalf, but she can guide parents on the correct steps to take and help them feel confident in the process.
Families who wish to make an appointment with Sian can email or phone the school office to arrange a time.
