Integrated Studies
Integrated Studies at Furlong Park School for Deaf Children brings together key learning areas from the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 to help students explore the world in meaningful and connected ways. Through term long units, students investigate concepts from History, Geography, Science and Civics and Citizenship, building their understanding of people, places, cultures and the natural environment.
Our approach allows students to inquire, question, experiment and discover through hands on, highly visual and practical learning experiences. Units are carefully designed so students make links between ideas, explore real world contexts and develop a deeper awareness of their community and the wider world.
Alongside subject knowledge, Integrated Studies also supports the development of the four Victorian Curriculum Capabilities:
-
- Intercultural understanding
- Ethical behavior
- Critical and creative thinking
- Personal and social capability
These capabilities help students communicate respectfully, think thoughtfully, solve problems, make informed choices and work effectively with others.
Through Integrated Studies, our students learn about the world and their place in it, developing the curiosity, understanding and skills they need to participate confidently in their community and beyond.
